Qatar Airways has announced its plans to début its new ultra-modern Airbus A350-1000 on the Singapore & Haneda flight routes. The new aircraft will be fitted with the airline's award-winning Qsuite business suites. A350-1000 services on flights to Singapore will commence with effect from November 1, 2018. Services on Tokyo Haneda route will commence with effect from January 1, 2019.

The Airbus A350-1000 will gradually replace the airline's A350-900 on its triple-daily flights to Singapore; the airline is planning to make the route to be an all A350-1000 route by April 2019.

The Qatar Airbus A350-1000 flights will feature 46 Qsuite Business Class seats and 281 Economy Class seats. Qsuite Business class seats feature adjustable panels and movable TV monitors that can be adjusted to convert 4 adjacent seats into a private cabin. The Qsuite also feature the industry's first double beds.

A press release issued by the airline announcing the launch stated, "Similar to the A350-900 – for which Qatar Airways was also the global launch customer – the high-performance A350-1000 boasts an advanced airframe with extensive use of composite materials. Coupled with a fuselage innovatively built with carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, the jetliner burns lesser fuel, reducing harmful effects to the environment. On the inside, LED mood lighting mimics a natural sunrise and sunset to help reduce the effects of jet lag."

Qatar Airways has announced exclusive access to GQ & Vogue fashion videos on its on-board entertainment platform, Oryx One. The airline is the first in the aviation industry to include these iconic fashion brands in their entertainment offerings.

The airline will start airing episodes from a short selection of short-form content from GQ & Vogue on the TV section of its in-flight entertainment system.

A press release issued by the airline stated, "Vogue videos feature the glamour of the red carpet at the annual ‘Met Gala’, celebrity style and make-up tips in ‘Beauty Icons’, star-studded creative films in ‘Vogue Original Shorts’ and, filmed in a single shot, some of the world’s favourite personalities being challenged to a rapid-fire interview in ‘73 Questions’. The GQ channel offers style tips with ‘How to Do it Better’, exclusive interviews with Hollywood’s A-list in ‘GQ Men of the Year’, and the opportunity to watch celebrities go undercover on social media to answer real-life questions about themselves in the comedy series ‘Actually Me’."

Oryx One provides its passengers with up to 4,000 channels of entertainment options, including 500 blockbuster movies, 1,300 episodes of TV programmes, 1,000 audio channels and 50 games, with new content refreshed each month.

The first TUMI pop-up store in the Middle East region has opened at Qatar Duty Free. Opened in partnership with Qatar Duty Free, the TUMI store aims to be the ultimate destination for travellers looking for a unique brand experience whilst transiting or departing from the award-winning Hamad International Airport (HIA).

The internationally known brand is recognised for its outstanding line of travel luggage and accessories. The pop-up store at Qatar Duty Free will include a TUMI embossing machine to enable customers to personalise their purchases. The embossing service for guest initials is free of charge.

Etihad Airways has announced the launch of a new hand-baggage fare for selected routes. The fares will enable passengers who travel light to pay a lower amount to travel without any checked baggage in Economy Class. The lower fare will include a cabin baggage allowance of 7 kg.

A press release announcing the launch stated, "Guests looking to add additional checked baggage after purchasing a ‘Deal Fare’ can simply buy extra allowance at check-in or enjoy a 20 per cent discount when buying in advance online. Etihad Guest members who purchase the ‘Deal Fare’ can continue to enjoy free checked baggage allowance (Etihad Guest Silver – 10kg, Etihad Guest Gold – 15kg and Etihad Guest Platinum – 20kg). "

The Hand-baggage fare or 'Deal Fare' is currently available on flights between Abu Dhabi and selected destinations - namely, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Azerbaijan.

Lufthansa Airlines has announced the launch of a new Taxi-sharing service, mytaximatch, in collaboration with mytaxi. The new service will enable passengers travelling from Munich Airport to the city centre to share taxis and save up to 50 % on the taxi fare. The fare would be dependent on the route and traffic.

Passengers can avail the service through the mytaxi app. Choosing the Match option enables passengers to be paired up with travellers to similar or neighbouring destinations and makes it possible for them to split the fare. There will be a baggage limit for up to two pieces of baggage to ensure a comfortable ride. The taxis will depart from the Taxi Rank at Terminal 2 of the Munich Airport.

A press release issued by Lufthansa stated, "At the end of each person’s route, the app calculates their individual price. This will never exceed EUR 49 in total, even if no suitable ride-sharer has been found. Even in the case of finding "no match", passengers still benefit from the price guarantee."

Commenting on the launch, Gleb Tritus, Managing Director of the Lufthansa Innovation Hub stated, "Our goal is to extend the first-class experience that we offer travellers on Lufthansa flights along the entire travel chain. mytaximatch service will be launched at Munich Airport with effect from September 19, 2018 for an initial test phase of 3 months. Lufthansa customers will receive all the information they need concerning the new service exclusively via the Lufthansa app and will be redirected straight to the mytaxi service. During the three-month test phase, Miles & More will be giving users a credit of 150 Premium Miles per matched journey – an attractive additional offer for all users who are already collecting miles with mytaxi and Miles & More.

Lufthansa Group has announced the launch of new stations for its Lufthansa Express Rail service, enabling guests to book a seamless journey from more German cities to their destination - first by train and then by flight.

Beginning from September, Lufthansa Express Rail will gradually increase the number of stations it serves from the current 8 to 20. The rail service will connect these new stations to and from Frankfurt / Main. New stations that will be added in September include stations in Göttingen, Kassel, Erfurt and Aachen. Lufthansa Express Rail is already available in Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Würzburg.

Each station will serve up to eight daily connections, thereby ensuring that Lufthansa passengers have excellent connectivity from across Germany to their departure airport in Frankfurt. Lufthansa passengers connecting to Frankfurt Airport by Lufthansa Express Rail also benefit from seat reservation included in the price, earning Miles&More miles and a guaranteed connection.

Business Class guests can travel in the First Class of Deutsche Bahn and have access to the DB lounges. According to the press release, stations in Freiburg and Ulm will be opened for service in December; stations in Essen, Bochum, Duisburg, Wuppertal, Oberhausen and Bonn are scheduled to be completed in early summer 2019.

SWISS Airlines has announced the launch of a new SWISS Food to Gate Service that will enable passengers at the Boarding Gate to order and get their food delivered directly to the gate. The service will be launched in collaboration with smood.ch, a Swiss food delivery platform.

A press release issued by SWISS Airline stated, "SWISS Food to Gate allows passengers to order food and drinks online on their day of departure and have it delivered directly to their boarding gate whenever they wish. Orders can be made on the same day up to 60 minutes before take-off. The payments are made online. Once the passenger is sitting comfortably at the boarding gate, they receive a notification to signal the arrival of the delivery person, who will be easily recognisable by their uniform."

To order their food, guests will need to navigate to swiss.com/foodtogate –– an external link platform. Once online, they can browse through the menu of hot and cold snacks, developed in collaboration with partner restaurants at Geneva Airport. The prices offered on the platform are the same as those available at the food outlets. Guests can place their order in just a few clicks. A delivery fee of just CHF 2.50 will be applicable.

SWISS also offers SWISS Saveurs, a new catering concept available on board direct flights from Geneva, which offers a wide choice of fresh produce, drinks and à la carte snacks.

Vistara Airlines has announced a new partnership with British Airways to open up new routes between India and London Heathrow. As part of the new agreement, passengers can book Vistara to connect to London from over 13 new cities in India, including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Goa, Kolkata, Kochi, and Pune.

British Airways already operates two direct flights a day from Mumbai to London Heathrow, a double daily service from Delhi and a daily flight from Chennai. The airline also offers direct flights from Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Singapore Airlines has announced its plans to début its first Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft on its Singapore - Adelaide route. The airline is expected to commence services on the flights to Adelaide and back on the new aircraft with effect from December 17, 2018, subject to regulatory approval.

The airline's new Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft will feature 40 Business Class Seats and 263 Economy Class seats. The Business class seats are in a 1-2-1 configuration, offering each business class passenger direct aisle access. Economy Class seats are in a 3-3-3 configuration.

Passengers can also enjoy the latest Thales AVANT in-flight entertainment system and high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi service onboard the new aircraft.

The new A350-900 will operate as SQ279 from Singapore to Adelaide, and return as SQ278, from Adelaide to Singapore. Following Adelaide, the A350-900 medium haul aircraft will also be deployed to Brisbane next year, subject to regulatory approval.

Singapore Airlines has announced the launch of a new service that enables passengers flying with the airlines to save their mobile boarding pass on Google Pay. The move has made the Singapore Airlines the first airline in the Asia-Pacific region to have such a capability of Google Pay.

Currently, the facility to check-in with a mobile boarding pass on Google Pay is limited to a few airports and to passengers with only hand-baggage. Passengers with check-in baggage are not eligible. Passengers requiring visas, credit card verifications, and/or on flights between Sydney and Canberra will also not be eligible for using mobile boarding passes.

A press release issued by Singapore Airlines said, "With this new initiative, customers can simply produce their boarding pass, which is saved to Google Pay, and proceed straight to the boarding gate after clearing immigration formalities. A customer will require an Android mobile device and first generate his or her mobile boarding pass via the SingaporeAir mobile App before being able to save it to Google Pay."

Commenting on the initiative, Mr Campbell Wilson, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, SIA said, "Our partnership with Google and the introduction of saving one’s mobile boarding pass to Google Pay is an example of SIA’s continued investment to broaden and enhance our digital capabilities. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced the launch of augmented reality for checking a hand-baggage dimension to confirm whether it meets the permitted dimensions. The technology enables passengers to check right at home, whether their hand baggage will be accepted on board. All passengers need to do is install the KLM App for iOS users.

The airline's AR hand baggage check makes use of a transparent, virtual KLM suitcase in the permitted dimensions; AR technology creates a virtual image that can be placed in reality and used interactively to compare with the passenger's hand baggage.

KLM is also one of a group of leading companies that use Apple’s Augmented Reality-technology to provide customer services in the KLM App.

Commenting on the launch, Pieter Groeneveld, Senior Vice-President - Digital, Air France - KLM said, "By harnessing the potential of AR, KLM is taking the next step in terms of digital service provision. With the AR hand baggage check, passengers can now see at a glance whether their hand baggage is the correct size. By offering this service, we are placing the needs of our customers first. A press release issued by the airline announcing the launch stated, "The KLM App has already been downloaded millions of times and has more than 100,000 active users each day. No fewer than 70% of the app users are logged in permanently and use the KLM app several times a month. The app’s features are designed to enhance overall comfort before, during and after the trip."

"The AR hand baggage check has been added to the existing functionalities of the KLM App, including up-to-date flight information, booking a flight, checking in online, downloading boarding passes or reserving specific seats. The app was also recently launched in the Airport Map, a digital map of no less than 24 different airports enabling passengers to find their way around quickly. With “Milestones”, passengers can use the KLM App to find out all sorts of useful information and tips with respect to their personal KLM flight history. Should a flight from Schiphol be significantly delayed, users also have the option of activating a digital snack or meal voucher. What’s more, the app even makes it possible for you to rebook your flight yourself," the press release continued.

Delta Air Lines has announced its plans to launch the first biometric terminal in the USA. The terminal, Terminal F, will be launched at the Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal (Terminal F) in Atlanta in collaboration with the Customs & Border Protections, TSA, and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Services at the new biometric terminal will commence late this year.

Following the launch, passengers scheduled to fly from the terminal direct to an international destination will have the option of using facial recognition technology from curb to gate, transforming the customer journey with a seamless travel experience through the airport.

A press release issued by the airline announcing the launch stated, "This optional, end-to-end Delta Biometrics experience includes using facial recognition technology to:

  • Check in at the self-service kiosks in the lobby
  • Drop checked baggage at the counters in the lobby
  • Serve as identification at the TSA checkpoint
  • Board a flight at any gate in Terminal F
  • And, go through CBP processing for international travellers arriving into the U.S."
The technology is not limited to Delta passengers; passengers scheduled to fly from Terminal F on partner airlines Aeromexico, Air France-KLM or Virgin Atlantic Airways will also be eligible to use this technology.

Commenting on the impending launch, Gil West, COO, Delta said, "Launching the first biometric terminal in the U.S. at the world’s busiest airport means we’re bringing the future of flying to customers travelling around the globe. Customers have an expectation that experiences along their journey are easy and happen seamlessly — that’s what we’re aiming for by launching this technology across airport touch points."

The facial recognition technology will save time, enable faster boarding and will provide Delta employees an opportunity to have more meaningful interactions with customers throughout the journey.

The press release also gave an overview of how the technology will work.

The press release stated, "Customers flying direct to an international destination from Atlanta’s Terminal F wanting to use this option simply:

  • Enter their passport information when prompted during online check-in.
  • Forgot to enter passport information in advance? Don’t worry — this option will be available at the terminal after an initial passport scan and verification.
  • Click “Look” on the screen at the kiosk in the lobby, or approach the camera at the counter in the lobby, the TSA checkpoint or when boarding at the gate.
  • Breeze through once the green check mark flashes on the screen.
  • travellers will need to have their passports available and should always bring their passports when they travel internationally for use at other touch points during their trip.
  • And, if customers do not want to participate, they just proceed normally, as they’ve always done, through the airport."
"Also at ATL Terminal F, customers can take advantage of industry-leading Computed Tomography (CT) scanners at two automated screening lanes, which are being installed in partnership with the TSA and the airport. This means travellers won’t have to take out electronics from their bags at the TSA checkpoint, further enabling a smooth travel experience," the press release continued.

Delta Air Line has tested optional facial recognition boarding at ATL, Detroit Metropolitan Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport over the past several years. The airline recently tested a self-service biometric bag drop at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport for international customers and biometric boarding at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Optional biometric check-in have already been launched for all domestic Delta Sky Clubs.

Jet Airways has announced enhancements to its 'Fare Choices' for Economy Class on its domestic route network with unbundling of fares. Meals will now not be included in Light and Deal categories of the Fare Choices in Economy, thereby, ensuring that guests have the flexibility of enjoying competitive fares with the option to buy meals if required from a specially curated on-board menu. The enhancements will come into effect for bookings from September 25, 2018 made for travel from September 28, 2018.

A press release issued by Jet Airways said, "Guests can choose from vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, including hot meal options on select flights and pay using their debit / credit cards. Complimentary beverage service including tea and coffee to all guests in Economy (including 'Light'/'Deal' fares), will continue on eligible flights."

"The airline will continue to offer complimentary meals across 'Light'/'Deal' Fare Choices for guests who have made bookings prior to 25th September, 2018. On flights within India, all features and benefits, including complimentary meals will continue for Economy fare options viz. 'Saver', 'Classic' and 'Flex and for all fare options in Première," the press release continued.

There will be no changes to the features and benefits under First class, Première and Economy fares on the airline's international flights. Members of JetPrivilege, Jet Airways' frequent flyer membership program, will continue to earn and redeem their JPMiles across all fare types.

Originally introduced two years ago, Fare Choices enabled guests to pick and choose their preferred fare and travel experience. The recently announced enhancements will further ensure that customers are able to pay lower fares and enjoy more choice on the features that they wish to pay and enjoy.

Vistara Airlines has announced the launch of Vistara World, its in-flight wireless entertainment system across its aircraft fleet. The state-of-the-art entertainment system is complimentary and enables guests to stream content from Vistara World to their own personal devices.

The user interface is simple and intuitive and allows for easy selection of content from over 70 hours of TV shows, music, Bollywood and Hollywood content of various genres. A live moving map display further enables one to track their aircraft's flight path.

New Flight Launches
Qatar Airways has announced its plans to launch direct flights to Da Nang in Vietnam and Mombosa in Kenya. The launch will mark the addition of two new cities to the international route network of the airlines. Da Nang will be the third city in Vietnam to be connected by Qatar Airways. Mombosa will be the second city in Kenya to join the Qatar route network.

New Qatar flights to Da Nang, Vietnam:
Da Nang will be the third city in Vietnam to be connected by Qatar flights; the airline is already operating services to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The new flight services from Doha to Da Nang are expected to commence with effect from December 19, 2018.

The airline will be operating four-times-a-week flights; a Boeing 787-8 with 22 Business Class seats and 232 Economy Class seats will operate on the route.

New Qatar flights to Mombosa, Kenya:
Mombasa will be the second city in Kenya to be connected by Qatar flights; the new services will complement the existing service to Nairobi. British Airways has announced its plans to resume its flight services to Osaka, Japan after a 20 year gap. The airline will operate four direct flights a week from London Heathrow to Osaka Kansai International Airport. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will operate on the route; services will commence with effect from March 31, 2019.

The new service will be launched in collaboration with Japan Airlines; the resulting code share will result in an increase in the number of daily flights between London and Japan to up to 32 flights a week. Passengers will be able to earn and redeem Avios loyalty points on the new flights.

Commenting on the launch, Sean Doyle, Director of Network & Alliances, British Airways said, "Our partners Japan Airlines and Finnair have demonstrated that Osaka is a hugely popular route with leisure and business travellers alike, so we are excited to launch direct flights from London, giving customers another gateway. Japan is a highly sought-after destination for British tourists and many of the country’s key attractions are within easy reach of Osaka. This new route will also open up more opportunities for companies to explore and build business in the region so we’re expecting this new service to be well received by our customers."

Air France has announced the launch of new flights to Quito, Ecuador on Joon, its subsidiary airline. The new flights will operate from Paris CDG and fly to Quito thrice a week. An Airbus A340 with 30 Business Class seats, 21 Premium Economy Seats and 227 Economy seats will operate on the route. Services will commence with effect from May 14, 2019.

The flights by Joon will complement the KLM flights from Amsterdam to Quito.

Joon Airlines, a subsidiary of Air-France, offers Business Class seats that transform into 2 metre-long seat beds with welcome kits, a personal 15.6 inch HD Touch Screen with 1200 hours of programs and noise-reducing headphones.

In Premium Economy, Joon features 19.3 inch seats with 133 degrees recline and 39 inches of generous legroom. Comfort kits, welcome drinks, and meals and beverage inspired by the Business Class offerings are some of the other features of Premium Economy onboard Joon flights.

Economy seats feature 30.7 inches of legroom and seats with a 118-degrees recline. Guests onboard Economy on Joon flights enjoy a latest-generation touch screen, a USB plug to charge your devices, and a complimentary full meal. An additional in-flight menu is also available for extra purchases.

Air France has announced its plans to launch a seasonal flight service to Dallas, USA. The new service will operate from Paris CDG to Dallas-Fort Worth and will make Dallas the 13th USA destination to be connected to Paris by the airline's services. Services on the route will commence with effect from March 31, 2019 and will last through the summer season, until October 25, 2019.

An Airbus A330 with 36 Business class seats, 21 Premium Economy seats and 167 Economy seats will operate on the route. The airline will offer five flights in a week until the end of summer.

Delta Airlines and United Airlines have both announced their plans to launch additional flights to Las Vegas in time for the Consumer Electronics Show - CES 2019. Delta Airlines will operate additional flights from Shanghai, rerouting the airline's existing Shanghai - Atlanta flights to make a stop-over at Las Vegas. United Airlines will operate additional flights to Las Vegas from 8 US cities, in addition to its regular scheduled flights from 7 US cities. The additional flights will be in service only for the duration of the CES 2019.

Delta Airlines flights from Shanghai to Las Vegas:
Delta Airlines will be operate two flights between Shanghai and Atlanta with stop-overs in Las Vegas. A Boeing 777-200LR with 37 lie-flat Delta One (Business Class) seats, 36 Delta Comfort + (Premium Economy) seats and 218 Economy Class seats will operate on the route. Each seat features personal in-flight entertainment on demand, satellite-based Wi-Fi and power ports.

United Airlines flights to Las Vegas:
United Airlines will be operating special flights to Las Vegas from 8 more cities, in addition to its existing flights. At present, the airline operates regular scheduled flights to Las Vegas from Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

To cater to the demand to CES 2019, the airline will be launching special non-stop flights from the cities of Austin, Fort Lauderdale, Raleigh-Durham, San Jose, Boston, Pittsburgh, San Diego and Seattle. The airline will also be increasing the number of flights to 48 daily flights on its existing routes to Las Vegas. Flights from New York / Newark and San Francisco will be upgraded to a Boeing 777-200 wide-body aircraft to cater to the increased demand.

Jet Airways has announced its plans to launch the nation's first non-stop flights from Mumbai to Manchester, UK. Manchester will be the airline's 21st destination on its international route network. The new service will complement the airline's existing flights from Mumbai and Delhi to London Heathrow.

Services on the route will commence with effect from November 5, 2018. An Airbus A330-200 with 18 Première Seats and 236 Economy Seats will operate on the route five day a week.

A press release announcing the launch said, "The airline has been working to strengthen additional connectivity choices for guests arriving in Manchester, who can now connect onwards to North America and Europe or even within the UK, via flights with Jet Airways' partner carriers including Virgin Atlantic, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France and other interline partners. Jet Airways' guests and those of certain partner carriers will also be able to enjoy mutual earn and burn of miles on each other frequent flyer programmes as per agreement between the respective airlines."

"Conversely, guests flying via Mumbai will be able to access Jet Airways' network of 45 destinations within India. Similarly, quick connections to beyond points on Jet Airways' international network such as Bangkok, Colombo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dhaka and Kathmandu, will now be available. InterContinental Hotels Group or IHG has announced its plans to début its Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants chain in Bangkok, Thailand and in London, UK. The global chain brand will be managing a brand new hotel by Siam Sindhorn in Bangkok with effect from 2020. The hotel in UK will be opened sooner, with a launch scheduled for late October 2018.

The newly-built Kimpton Bangkok will be the first Kimpton hotel in Thailand and the second across East Asia and Korea. IHG has announced the launch of IHG Business Edge corporate program for Small & Mid-size Enterprises. A press release issued by IHG stated, "Prior to launch, 1,500 companies have already signed up as members, eager to benefit from a program designed to streamline the negotiation process, reward loyalty, and consolidate data, content and booking into one easily accessible customer portal."
