New security rules, including stricter passenger screening, have been announced for all flights to USA with immediate effect. The new security measures, which include increased passenger screening, enhanced checks for all electronics and short interviews at check-in or at the gate, will greatly increase the amount of time taken to check-in and board all flights to USA from across the world.
According to a press report on Reuters, Lufthansa Group said travellers will face short interviews at check-in or at the gate. Swiss Airline has asked travellers to check in at least 90 minutes before departure and Cathay Pacific Airways has advised travellers to arrive three hours before departure.
Some airlines have suspended in-town check-in, self bag-drop services and self-check-in services for flights to USA, while others require guests who have already checked-in online to present themselves at dedicated counters for a short security interview.
Even unaccompanied minors and guests requiring special assistance will have to undergo the security interview; these guests, will however, be assisted by a ground crew.
The new measures will effect 325,000 airline passengers on about 2,000 commercial flights arriving daily in the United States, on 180 airlines from 280 airports in 105 countries. They replace the in-cabin ban on laptops, airlines said.
European and U.S. officials told Reuters at the time that airlines had 120 days to comply with the measures, including increased passenger screening. The 120-day deadline is Thursday. Airlines had until late July to expand explosive trace detection testing.

Austrian Airlines has announced the launch of its new Premium Economy Class of Travel. The new class will have more comfortable and spacious seats than the regular Economy Class seats; it will also offer its guests more legroom and additional facilities such as an increase in Baggage Allowance.
Premium Economy is a new travel class emerging to fill the wide gap between Economy Class and Business Class of seats.
According to a press release issued by Austrian Airlines, the Premium Economy Class seats will be available on all long-haul flights with effect from 6 March, 2018.
As per the press release, Andreas Otto, CCO of Austrian Airlines commented on the launch, stated, "The new Premium Economy Class is an important milestone in our strategy aimed at linking the issue of individualization with quality. The customer can individually choose the travel class according to her or his needs, whether the preference is to fly in a price conscious manner in Economy Class, treat oneself to a little more service and comfort in Premium Economy or luxury travel in Business Class.
"In particular, the new Premium Economy Class is designed to appeal to passengers who want to afford more service and a higher level of comfort on flights to their holiday destinations as well as price-conscious companies whose employees should travel in comfort on business trips.", the press release continued.

Austrian Airlines in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Railways has announced the expansion of AIRail - a co-operation program for a rail route between Vienna Airport and the Salzburg Central Railway Station. British Airways has announced the launch of a New Premium Transfer Drive Service at Heathrow Airport London to help customers avoid missing connecting flights. The new service scans passenger lists to track those who are at a risk of missing their connection due to a delay in flight.
Passengers once tracked are contacted by sending a message to the cabin crew of their in-coming flight and provided with an air-side car transfer to quickly whisk them away from their current flight and the connecting one.
According to a press release issued by British Airways, "The new scheme applies to customers travelling on a UK domestic flight, who are connecting on to either a short-haul flight in Club Europe, a long-haul service in Club World (long haul business class) or First, or who are Silver or Gold Executive Club members."
Commenting on the new service, Carolina Martinoli, Director of Brand & Customer Experience - British Airways said, "Missing a connection is one of the most stressful situations a customer can experience, so helping them through that journey and keeping them informed is critical. The new premium transfer service will enable us to identify customers who are at risk of missing their onward flight, and proactively arrange to collect them by car, whisking them directly to their next flight."

Swiss International Airlines has announced the launch of Flightpass, a new pass which enables travellers to purchase 10 one-way flights in one go for future travel. Date of travel can be in the next 12 months and the flights can be booked up to six months after the date of purchase of the pass.
The pass, launched in collaboration with Lufthansa Innovation Hub, is currently in trial mode and is available only for flights from Geneva to European destinations. The passes are currently for sale and will be available for sale until December 31, 2017, when the trial phase will end.

Lufthansa Group Network has announced the launch of more flexibility for passengers flying on its airlines. Guest flying on European routes on any of the group's airlines, namely, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines can now change their return tickets to an earlier flight without surcharge.
According to a press release issued by the Lufthansa Group on this new service, "Rebooking was already possible for these tickets, but now passengers will no longer have a surcharge, even if the originally selected booking category is no longer available."
The flight cannot be rebooked until the day of travel and is subject to availability of seats in the same class as the original ticket - Economy Class in the case of an Economy Flex ticket; Business Class for flexible Business Class tickets.
Free re-booking for Lufthansa Airlines flights can be done online on LH.com during the online check - in process, through the Lufthansa App or at the check-in kiosk and counters at the airports. For flights with Austrian Airlines and SWISS, free rebooking can be done only at the airport at the self-service kiosks or check-in counters.
Star Alliance, one of the leading global airline alliances, has announced the launch of a new Connection Service for guests arriving at Chicago O' Hare International Airport. The new service tracks passengers arriving on flights by any of its 28 member airlines and flags those passengers who are at a risk of missing a connecting flight due to a delay in their in-coming flight.

IndiGo Airlines has announced its plans to launch its first direct flight from Amritsar to Bengaluru. The operations for the new industry-first route will come into effect from October 29 and makes IndiGo Airlines the first Indian carrier to offer a direct flight on this sector.

SpiceJet has announced the launch of four new daily direct flights on its domestic network. The new flights - from Guwahati to Dibrugarh, Chennai to Belagavi, Bengaluru to Coimbatore, and Bengaluru to Madurai - serve to enhance connectivity between metro and non-metro cities in the North East and South India.
Two of these direct flights - Guwahati - Dibrugarh and Chennai - Belagavi are industry-firsts and complement the other sectors such as Bangalore - Belagavi, where SpiceJet is the only airline operating flights.

British Airways has announced its plans to launch direct flights from London Heathrow to Seychelles. The new flight will be the only non-stop service from the United Kingdom to Seychelles; services will commence with effect from March 24, 2018.
The new flights will be serviced by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, one of the newest aircraft on the British Airways fleet. Frequency of the flights will be Twice a Week - on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from March to October.
In a press release issued by British Airways, Sean Doyle, the Director of Network & Alliances at the airlines said, "The Seychelles is one of the most beautiful places on earth and we’re delighted to be adding this collection of islands to our extensive route network. Customers can now get into ‘holiday mode’ even earlier with British Airways’ direct flights from London taking 10 hours, instead of over 13 hours with a connection in the Middle East."

Qatar Airways has announced its plans to launch direct daily flights from Doha to Cardiff and Adana. The new Doha to Cardiff flights will make Qatar the first gulf carrier to offer direct flight service to Wales and Southwest England. The Doha to Adana route, on the other hand, will be the fourth route to Turkey for Qatar Airways. Both the new services seek the enhance connectivity.
The new Doha to Cardiff Flights will commence operations with effect from May 1, 2018 and will be serviced by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class.
In a press release issued by Qatar Airways, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive said, "We are delighted to announce the launch of our new route to the Welsh capital. According to the press release, the Doha to Cardiff flight route was first announced earlier this year and will be a transformative one for Cardiff Airport, as it will open up the Gulf region for passengers from South Wales and Southwest England for the first time. Travellers to and from Australia and Southeast Asia are also set to benefit from the daily long-haul flights via Doha.
Qatar Airways currently serves 4 airports across UK, including London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh. Cardiff will be the airline's fifth destination in the United Kingdom, once launched.
The new Doha to Adana Flights will be the first direct flight in the sector to be offered by Qatar Airways and will be serviced by an Airbus A320 with 12 seats in Business Class and 132 seats in Economy Class.
The launch of the new flights will make the Qatar Airways the first five-star Middle East airline to offer flights to and from Adana. Services will commence with effect from November 6, 2017 with a thrice-a-week frequency.

Adana will be the fourth destination in Turkey to be connected by direct flights by Qatar Airways.
