Emirates Airlines has announced the launch of its first scheduled A380 service to Hamburg. A380 services on the route will commence with effect from October 30, 2018. The launch of the aircraft to Hamburg will increase passenger on the route by over 22%. The airline already operates A380s to all other routes to Germany.

The flight pair EK 061/ EK 062 will be operated by an A380; a Boeing 777-300ER will continue to operate the second flight pair - EK 059 / EK 060.

A press release issued by the airline on the subject stated, "Emirates’ Airbus A380 aircraft serving the Dubai-Hamburg route will offer high levels of comfort and high quality service: a total of 516 seats in a three-class configuration, with 426 spacious seats in Economy on the main deck, 76 fully flat bed seats in Business and 14 First Class Private Suites on the upper deck. "

The Emirates A380 is renowned for its First Class Shower Spas, an Onboard Lounge for First and Business Class passengers, free Wi-Fi for all cabins, and great entertainment. First and Business Class passengers also benefit from a complimentary chauffeur drive service as well as access to Emirates’ global network of airport lounges, including a 900 m² lounge facility at Hamburg Airport.

Commenting on the launch of the new service, Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO, Hamburg Airport said, "Emirates has been a fixed component of our operations and a reliable partner for twelve years now. Demand has been high on the direct route to the hub in Dubai, now served with two daily flights, from the very beginning. The fact that Emirates is now also deploying the A380 for scheduled operations at Hamburg Airport is a logical consequence of the consistently high load factor on the Dubai flight. For passengers, this means even more comfort and an even better product offering. The decision is a clear commitment to Hamburg. With the increased seating capacity, Emirates is underlining the attractiveness of the route and of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region as well as the importance of our airport in the airline’s international route network."

Hamburg is the 49th destination to be served by the A380 aircraft and comes on the 10th successful year of Emirates’ A380 operations.

British Airways has announced its signing up with the TSA Pre-Check programme to ensure that eligible passengers flying with the airlines are able to benefit from the shorter security queues. Passengers need to be accepted under the USA government scheme to go through the TSA pre-check lane.

Eligible passengers will not be required to remove shoes, jackets or belts, nor will they have to remove laptops from their hand luggage. They can use fast-track security queues and make it through Airport security easily, often in less than 5 minutes.

To get pre-approval, UK citizens need to sign up to become Global Entry members, involving an interview, background check and fingerprint scan.

Customers can find out more details on TSA Precheck by visiting the TSA website. If a lane is not available for a flight, customers with a TSA Precheck boarding pass may receive expedited screening in a standard lane.

Having the ability to fast track through security will give time back to our customers so they can relax and enjoy more time in our lounges or more time to shop and dine in the airport."

Singapore Airlines has announced that its regional wing, SilkAir, will undergo a major cabin product upgrade as part of a major multi-year, $ 100 million initiative that will eventually see the wing merged with SIA. Vistara Airlines has announced the creation of its first Customer service Robot. The robot, named RADA, is the first such creation in India and has been created using Artificial Intelligence technology. The robot will assist customers and address their queries, while offering a seamless experience and an ‘intuitively thoughtful’ on-ground service to its customers.

Initially, the robot will be at the Vistara Signature Lounge at the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 with effect from July 5, 2018. The robot will assist customers using the lounge, while waiting to board their flights.

At present, the robot RADA can scan boarding passes and provide information on departure gates, terminal, real time flight status, weather conditions of the destination city as well as Vistara products and services. To make it a more personalized experience, the robot greets customers and interacts with them using basic hand movements. It can also engage with kids and adults and play games, songs, and videos while navigating the lounge on pre-defined pathways.

A press release issued by Vistara Airlines stated, "‘RADA’ will be further developed over a period of time in terms of functionality and features for future use cases, after gauging customer feedback."

Commenting on the introduction of ‘RADA’, Mr. LeslieThng, CEO, Vistara said, "Innovation is one of the core values engrained in the DNA of Vistara’s culture, which we have fostered within the organization in many ways. RADA is a manifestation of this endeavour. Vistara has disrupted the market through several innovations with the sole objective of redefining air travel in the country, while making its processes more robust and resources more effective. With RADA, we aim to change the way people interact and fly with an airline. We will be developing ‘RADA’ based on customer feedback and equipping it with the most effective features in the time to come. Our steadfast focus remains to be on delighting customers across all touchpoints, and we’re confident that ‘RADA’ will help us take the ‘new feeling’ to the next level."

Explaining what sparked the idea behind ‘RADA’, Mr. Ravinder Pal Singh, Chief Information & Innovation Officer, Vistara added, "It was a realisation that the talented, young employees engaged in ground services, gain immense customer service experience on the job, but the limited scope of their routine work could challenge their true potential. Some of them spend decades within the walls of an airport, assisting customers. Vistara is an organization that encourages its employees to look beyond boundaries and leverage the talent and skills of such employees. Therefore, we thought of inventing a robot that can help us enhance customer experience by gradually taking over the routine, mundane tasks. The basic premise of the thought was to develop a simple and extremely cost-effective practical robot that can engage in basic human interaction to begin with, and can further be developed to perform more complex tasks, as consumer habits continue to evolve in the technological age where humans and machines will complement and create a evolved harmonious evolution."

IndiGo Airlines has announced fuel surcharges on its fares following a sharp rise in the Aviation Turbine Fuel prices. The airline will levy INR 200 on routes less than 1000 km in distance; any route longer than that will be charged INR 400 per ticket. The surcharge will be applicable on all domestic trips i.e. within India, and will come into effect at midnight on May 29, 2018.

A press release issued by IndiGo stated, "Aircraft fuel expenses represent the single largest item of IndiGo’s total expenses, accounting for around 40 percent of the airline's cost of operation."

Mr Sanjay Kumar, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, "With ATF prices in India having risen around 25% in the current month compared to the same period last year, and at the highest in last three years, the airline is compelled to pass some of the increased cost burden to customers as a fuel surcharge. In the context of the past decade, where airfares in India have reduced by nearly 50 per cent in real terms (i.e. adjusted for inflation), we are confident that this marginal increase in the form of fuel surcharge will not have any significant adverse impact on demand."

Mr Kumar further added, "We are hopeful that the 1.5 lakh plus passengers flying with IndiGo each day will continue giving us support. We assure our customers that this move of reintroduction of fuel surcharges will not much impact the low fares that are being charged, and will not change IndiGo’s positioning as a low cost carrier that is also synonymous with being on-time and providing courteous and hassle free service."

The airline will review the surcharge in the light of oil prices going forward, and endeavours to be in a position to withdraw it once oil prices have moderated.

Emirates Airlines has announced the launch of a new daily service to Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. The new flight service from Dubai to Edinburgh will commence with effect from October 1, 2018.

Edinburgh will be second city in Scotland to be connected by Emirates Airlines' flight services; the airline already operates a flight to Glasgow. An Emirates Boeing 777-300 ER with 8 First Class Private Suites, 42 lie-flat Business Class seats, and 304 Economy Class Seats will operate on the new route.

Commenting on the launch, Hubert Frach, Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations - West, Emirates Airlines said, "We’re increasing our capacity to Scotland to meet growing demand, and by introducing a daily flight to Edinburgh, it will complement our current double daily flights between Dubai and Glasgow. Edinburgh is a very popular leisure and business destination, and the new service will offer our customers from across our global network, particularly from key inbound markets such as Asia and Australia, a direct option to the city via our Dubai hub."

"It will also be a more convenient point for travellers from the greater Edinburgh area, and beyond, such as Aberdeen and Dundee, to travel with Emirates to Dubai and onward to destinations across our network," he added.

British Airways has announced the launch of new flights from Heathrow to the city of Marrakech in Morocco, Moscow in Russia, and Durban in South Africa.

New British Airways Flights from Heathrow to Marrakech, Morocco:

The new flights to Marrakech, Morocco will be a new direct service that will operate four times a week from London Heathrow Terminal 5. The new service will compliment the existing London Gatwick to Marrakech flights operated by the airlines. Services on the new route commence with effect from October 28, 2018. Flights will operate on Thursday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

New British Airways Flights from Heathrow to Moscow, Russia:

The new flights to Moscow, Russia is more of a redirection than a completely new flight. The airline already operates three daily services to Domodevo International Airport (DME) in Moscow; the airline is planning on re-routing one of these existing flights to Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) instead.

The new flight to Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) will give passengers easy access to North Moscow due to the location of the airport. An Airbus 321 will operate on the route; services will commence with effect from October 28, 2018.

Commenting on the newly re-routed flight, Joerg Tuensmeyer, Head of Sales for Europe, British Airways said, "By changing one of our three daily flights to SVO we are opening up the north of the city for our Russian customers and giving more options to our UK based travellers who need to get to that part of the city when they arrive into the capital. We know how precious time is, especially to our business customers and frequent flyers, so this change allows them to spend more time in the lounge working or relaxing."

United Airlines has announced the launch of new flights as part of its expansion plans within the USA. The airline will launch new flights from New York / Newark and Washington-Dulles Airports to offer its passengers a more easier and frequent access to cities across USA, Canada and other destinations on the airline's route network.

The airline has also planned a non-stop seasonal flight service from New York / Newark to Palm Springs, California. The seasonal flight service from New York / Newark to Key West, Florida will also be increased to a year-round service.

According to a press release issued by the airline on the subject, the new flights will be a part of planned schedule adjustments for the East Coast and will result in an increase in non-stop flights on routes popular with New York area flyers. Connecting passenger flights on Short-haul routes will be relocated to Washington-Dulles Airport. "United will transition service between New York/Newark and Chattanooga, Tennessee; Ithaca, New York, and Scranton, Pennsylvania to Washington-Dulles," the press release continued.

Commenting on the schedule changes, Ankit Gupta, Vice President of Domestic Network, United Airlines said, "We approached these schedule adjustments with our customers in mind, knowing that we wanted to create a schedule that offers customers beginning their travel in the New York City area convenient flights to many of the business and leisure destinations they frequent the most. Since more of our customers begin their travel from New York/Newark than any other United hub city, we've created a more customer friendly schedule that removed connection times and provided convenient non-stop service to multiple U.S. destinations."

The airline has increased flight frequencies on the following routes: beginning October 4, 2018.
