Jet Airways has announced the launch of First Class fares on daily flights between Delhi and Singapore with the deployment of its flagship Boeing 777 jet liner on the route. With the introduction of the Boeing 777, guests flying with Jet Airways will now have the option of booking either of the three classes - Economy, Première and First Class.

The First Class suites on board the Jet Airways Boeing 777 convert into individual suites with dual sliding doors, night sky mood lighting, a five-course meal with a choice of the finest wines and much more.

Commenting on the launch of the new service, Jayaraj Shanmugam, Chief Commercial Officer of Jet Airways stated, "Introduction of First Class service due to deployment of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the Delhi - Singapore route will enable our guests to experience the Joy of Flying given a completely relaxed and an extremely comfortable flying experience. Guests get to experience our exceptional, award-winning product and our Guest First service philosophy, helping to deliver unmatched service excellence in the skies.”

Air Vistara has announced the launch of its new Carry-On Plus service - a service that enables guests to extend their standard hand baggage allowance from the standard 7kg to an extended 12 kg allowance.

While guests carry on more weight, the physical dimensions of the carry-on bag needs to be within the current permissible limit: Maximum dimension = length + height + width should not exceed 158cms. And as always, an additional piece such as a laptop bag or ladies purse is permitted, as long as it can fit under the seat in front.

The ‘Carry-On Plus’ is complimentary for all our Business Class, Premium Economy, and Club Vistara Platinum and Gold customers. All other customers can enjoy the convenience of 'Carry-On Plus' service at a nominal fee of ₹250 per kg. The add-on service can be purchased online at or at the airline check-in counter at the airport.

In addition to the new Carry-On Plus service, Vistara has also opened new Self-Service Check-in kiosks at Delhi and Mumbai airports. Guests with just cabin baggage can now skip the check-in self check-in, choose their seats, and print boarding passes at the self-service kiosks, before proceeding for security check.

Guests with check-in baggage can self-check in and drop off their baggage at the check-in desks before proceeding to security check.

According to a press release on the airline's website, "The self-service kiosk check-in is also available for Singapore Airlines and SilkAir customers who are flying on Vistara-operated aircraft under code-share tickets. Vistara will soon also extend the functionality of the service to offer greater convenience of opting for ancillary products/services on the self-service check-in kiosks to its customers."

The airline plans to launch similar kiosks in 17 more airports across India by end of June.

The Lufthansa Group has announced the launch of Amadeus Airport Pay service for all its guests. The service will enable secure and simple payments at the check-in counter and the boarding gate for ancillary services such as excess baggage with chip-cards (credit/debit cards), girocard payments and compatible digital wallets.

According to a press release issued by the group on the subject, "Additionally, airline staff will be able to initiate compensation payments with these terminals, for instance in case a passenger voluntary steps back from an overbooked flight."

Commenting on the launch, Kai Schilb, Head of Payment at Lufthansa Group Hub Airlines said, “To bring secure and seamless payment options to our passengers to ease their individual and seamless travel experience is a core objective for the Lufthansa Group. Amadeus Airport Pay enables our travellers to choose customized ancillary services for their flight while checking in or at the gate – securely and with a variety of payment options, and without the need for detours."

"The standard used by the Amadeus Airport Pay solution is also fully compatible with PCI-DSS, a series of security standards defined by the payment card industry. By using a PIN method for the cards, fraud is prevented during the payment process itself.", the press release continued.

This new service, developed by Amadeus and Ingenico, will subsequently be available at more than 170 airports around the world from June 2017 onwards.

Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings have announced their plans to launch Wi-Fi services for a majority of their short- and medium-haul flights. The airlines' fleet is currently being fitted with the necessary Wi-Fi technology and satellite antennae for this service, after successful testing in past months on both Lufthansa and Austrian Airline flights.

Guests on these flights will be able to access the Internet on their own mobile devices via Wi-Fi. Offers range from messaging services through surfing the net and even to video streaming.

Guests flying Lufthansa can choose from one of three service packages:

  • FlyNet Message for 3 Euros
  • FlyNet Surf for 7 Euros and
  • FlyNet Stream for 12 Euros

Austrian Airlines offers the same services at the same prices under the names myAustrian FlyNet Message, myAustrian FlyNet Surf and myAustrian FlyNet Stream.

Guests will be able to pay for the service by either credit card or payment services such as PayPal. Future plans include making it possible to make purchases by using Air Miles or via roaming partners.

Sleep n Fly, an innovative sleep lounge, has announced the launch of its sleep pods and yawn cabins at the Dubai International Airport. Located close to Gate 1 in Concourse A of Terminal 3, the Sleep n Fly lounge offers a total of 20 state-of-the-art ‘igloo’ sleep pods, plus seven premium double cabins with pull-out children’s beds for the convenience of passengers transiting through Dubai Airport.

Pods and cabins are available for hire by the hour or for a night, making it ideal for guests with short as well as long layovers.

The units can be booked in advance online, by visiting their website, which states "Advance reservations can only be accepted until 12 hours prior to arrival, and with a minimum stay of two (2) hours between 12:00 noon (check-in) and 22:00 (check-out). A minimum stay of four (4) hours applies to advance bookings only during the night/morning for check-in between 22:00 and check-out by 12:00 noon. For walk-ins on the spot, and subject to availability, at any time of the day or night the minimum stay is only one (1) hour for the Pods, and two (2) hours for our YAWN Cabins – or parts thereof."

The lounge includes features such as a nature-inspired ambience with lots of real wood, earth colours and dimmed lighting; a team of multilingual hospitality and housekeeping staff; a small waiting area for both arriving and departing guests, as well as a unisex changing room with a baby changing facility.

Etihad Airways has announced sweeping changes to its on-board and on-ground policies with effect from July 3. Onboard, guests flying Etihad can now bid for empty seats, next to their booked seats for a more comfortable flying experience. On the ground, all Etihad guests can now enjoy access to its chauffeur services, for a fee.

On-board Neighbour-free Seat

Etihad Airways has introduced an innovative "Neighbour-free Seat" option for guests seeking more seating room and privacy, while flying Economy. With this service, guests can now bid for up to 3 empty seats next to their booked seat - at the time of booking itself. This service is open for online bookings only; no bids will be accepted at the Gate or once onboard.

Successful bids are confirmed 30 hours prior to departure and bidders are notified by e-mail. There is no charge if the bid is unsuccessful. With this new Neighbour-Free seating, guests who have successfully bid for the empty seat can enjoy increased space and comfort at an affordable cost - subject to availability, I.e. if the flight is not fully booked, then you pay the airline to have them seat other guests in any seat which is not next to yours!

On-ground Chauffeur Service

After a review of usage of its chauffeur service by premium guests across all markets, Etihad has amended its on-ground chauffeur policy to retain its complimentary service at Abu Dhabi hub and replace it with a paid service at all other cities.

The changes come into effect on July 3. Guests who hold First and Business Class tickets issued prior to 3 July will not be affected by these changes. They will continue to receive complimentary chauffeur service across destinations where the service is currently offered.

From July 3, the paid chauffeur service will be open to passengers from across the classes, instead of being dedicated to just premium paying passengers. Also, the guests flying onboard the Airbus A380 in the Residence - 3-room suite will continue to receive complimentary chauffeur services at Abu Dhabi as well as the other destinations served by the Etihad A380 - including London, Paris, New York and Sydney.

Under the amended policy, members of Etihad Guest Frequent Flier program will be able to accrue additional miles on their chauffeur bookings.

On-ground Lounge Policy

Etihad Airways has also amended its lounge policy to enable Economy Class guests to access its growing portfolio of dedicated lounges, including its Premium Lounges across the world on payment basis. Business Class passengers can, similarly, pay and enjoy access to the luxurious First Class Lounge & Spa at Abu Dhabi.

New Flight Launches

Jet Airways has announced plans to launch new non-stop flights to Europe from Chennai and Bangalore. The new flight services will connect Chennai with Paris and Bangalore with Amsterdam, thereby, strengthening the airline's southern network and marking the commencement of the first direct flights on the Chennai - Paris and Bangalore - Amsterdam routes.

The new flights will be operated in codeshare with Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Services will commence with effect from October 29, 2017 and they will complement existing services between Delhi - Amsterdam, Mumbai - Amsterdam and Mumbai - Paris. An Airbus A330 will be deployed for the services.

To mark this major milestone, Jet Airways has announced a special introductory fares on both routes. While regular Economy Seats return fare begins at INR 35,995, Première starts at INR 1,29,999.

Bookings for the new flights are currently open.

Jet Airways has announced plans to launch a third, non-stop, daily service between Mumbai and London Heathrow. The new flight will boost Jet Airways’ passenger and cargo capacity between India and the United Kingdom by almost 33 percent, besides enhancing onward connectivity from London Heathrow to North America with partners Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic.

The airline will deploy a Boeing 777-300ER, the biggest aircraft in its fleet with a three-class configuration that includes the airline’s award-winning ‘First Class’ private suites, 180° lie-flat beds for Business travellers as well as comfortable and ergonomic designed Economy seating, on the new service.

IndiGo Airlines has announced the launch of its first non-stop flights on the Singapore - Bengaluru sector. The service will operate daily and marks the airlines' fifth flight between the two cities.

Commenting on the launch, Sanjay Kumar, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, “Both Singapore and Bengaluru are strong business and tourism hubs and attract significant passenger traffic. It gives us pleasure to introduce a direct flight on Singapore-Bengaluru route which will save flyers up to three hours of travel each way. ”

IndiGo Airlines has announced the launch of a new daily flight service between Kolkata and Pune. The new service will be in addition to its existing frequency and will operate as a late night flight.

Commenting on the new flight schedule, Aditya Ghosh, President and Whole -Time Director, IndiGo said, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce our second daily flight between Kolkata and Pune. We have witnessed a sharp increase in travel demand on the Kolkata-Pune route. Qatar Airways has announced a partnership with Monacair to provide seamless air travel by helicopter between Monaco and Nice. This new service is open to all passengers arriving on the newly-launched Qatar Airways flights to Nice and travelling on to Monaco.

According to a press release issued by Qatar, "Qatar Airways' passengers arriving in Nice on board the airline’s newly-launched direct service to Nice will now have the opportunity to seamlessly connect at Nice International Airport onto a Monacair helicopter flight to Monte Carlo. Likewise, passengers travelling from Monaco to Nice by helicopter will be able to connect at Nice International Airport to a choice of more than 150 destinations on Qatar Airways' global network."

"This partnership will ensure passengers travelling to and from Monte Carlo enjoy smooth, continuous service from their homes to their final destination, with one single booking and point of contact.", the press release continued.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said, "This strategic partnership with Monacair combines perfectly with the launch of our new direct service to Nice, allowing passengers to travel to and from Monaco in just six minutes from Nice International Airport."

The helicopter flight will commence with effect from July 4. Bookings are now open.
