Emirates Airlines has announced the launch of Home Check-in facility in Dubai. The new facility allows passengers booked on Emirates flights from Dubai to check-in from anywhere in Dubai. They can complete security check and get their luggage collected from their home, hotel, or office and get their boarding passes issued - sitting right at home.

An Emirates check-in agent will arrive at the preferred location to complete all check-in formalities, weigh and tag the bags, and issue boarding passes to the passengers. Passengers availing this new facility can proceed directly to immigration on arrival at the airport.

The service can be availed for an additional fee of AED 350 per trip; up to 7 pieces of luggage can be checked in using this service. AED 35 will be charged for every additional piece of baggage. Each piece of baggage is sealed, stored and transported to the airport in a separate hold in the Emirates Home Check-in Van.

A press release issued by the airline on the subject stated, "Emirates has been running trials for its Home Check-in service since October to ensure that the customer experience and security checks are faultless."

"The new Home Check-in offering complements other luggage handling services already available for Emirates flights in Dubai. For a seamless travel experience, customers can pay for a concierge service to handle their luggage at the airport, enjoy preferred rates for pre-paid excess baggage, and bag wraps to protect their luggage," the press release continued.

While this service is limited to passengers flying from Dubai, passengers arriving at Dubai can avail a luggage storage facility for passengers wishing to explore the city without hauling all their luggage on a transit visa. A Luggage Home Delivery service, which retrieves the luggage, gets it cleared at Customs and delivered to the home / hotel, is also available.

Interested passengers can book the Emirates Home Check-in service up to 12 hours prior to the flight departure time.

Qatar Airways has announced the launch of a Super Wi-Fi high speed Internet connectivity services on its fleet of Boeing 777 and Airbus A350. The airlines is the first in the MENA region to invest in the Inmarsat's GX Aviation Technology to provide its guests a high-quality Wi-Fi experience Gate-to-Gate, across all altitudes.

All passengers flying in aircraft fitted with the new GX technology will be able to enjoy minimum 1 hour Super Wi-Fi- Access for no extra charge. For further use, passengers can choose the best suitable package from the range of affordable options offered.

Passengers will be able to access the aircraft's Internet right after completion of boarding; they no longer have to wait for the aircraft to reach a particular cruising altitude to begin browsing. To avoid any interference to aircraft and land-based mobile services, restrictions still apply to the on board use of mobile GSM services and SMS when the aircraft is below 3,000 meters.

Commenting on the development, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive, Qatar Airways Group said, "In another first for the MENA region, Qatar Airways passengers will be able to enjoy uninterrupted internet connectivity from the moment they step on board a Qatar Airways flight. This is another significant enhancement to our award-winning levels of service that our passengers around the globe have come to appreciate. We look forward to welcoming passengers on board and helping them stay connected throughout the flight."

Inmarsat is the same high-tech provider that is renowned for its space-based tracking system used to track all its flights worldwide. As one of the world’s leading developers of tracking systems, Inmarsat use a network of satellites to detect signals transmitted from aircraft and relay this information reporting speed, location and direction, to ground-based receivers.

British Airways has announced the launch of a new type of basic fare for long-haul flights. The new fare type offers the lowest of the fares and is ideally suited for passengers who travel light and do not have any particular seat preferences. The basic fares will cost up to GBP 60 less than average return fares.

Passengers travelling on the Basic Fare will still enjoy two-piece hand luggage allowances, allocated seating, food and drink, in-flight entertainment, blankets and head-phones. They can also use Avios points to pay for the flight ticket.

Guests on Basic fares can pay an additional charge to check in bags or to choose seats; alternatively, they can opt for the regular fares itself. The airline has also stated that it will continue to do its best to seat families together in advance, to make family travel easier.

A press release issued by the airlines addressing the launch, stated, "The fares, which the airline is launching in conjunction with its transatlantic joint business partner airlines, American Airlines, Finnair and Iberia, will cost up to £60 less than the standard return fare and will start from as little as London to Dubai from £143, Boston from £175, Oakland from £185, Denver from £191, Delhi from £210, Hong Kong from £228, Singapore from £230, Philadelphia from £234, Punta Cana from £240 and Austin from £246. All prices are each way, based on a return fare."

Commenting on the launch, Adam Daniels, Chief Commercial Officer, British Airways stated, "We know that when our customers travel with us their needs vary from trip to trip – some will be flying on business, some for leisure, some will be on short hops, others will be longer stays. We need to ensure that the fares we provide reflect those differing needs so customers can select the best option for them on that occasion."

"Someone travelling for a short meeting or leisure break, who isn’t planning to check in a bag and is happy for us to allocate them a seat, will appreciate the option to secure a lower fare. They’ll still receive our generous hand baggage allowance, a seat allocated to them in advance, complimentary food and drink, in-flight entertainment, blankets and headphones, all at no extra cost. And those looking to make even more savings can use Avios towards the flight too," Adams continued.

United Airlines has announced the launch of new in-flight entertainment and on-board catering services onboard most of its flights. The new services are part of its ongoing efforts to improve customer service and offer a better flying experience across all cabin types.

New in-flight entertainment:
The airline has announced the expansion of its personal device entertainment option to all Wi-Fi enabled aircraft. Prior to the expansion, the airlines offered DIRECTV only, a programming that granted access to TV channels and new movie releases for a particular fee. Now, passengers can use their personal devices such as a Laptop, Apple iOS device or an Android device to access complimentary movies and TV shows, in addition to having the option of purchasing DIRECTV programming.

Guests will need to download the latest United APP on their devices to access the personal device entertainment, which includes monthly updated music video play lists from VEVO, relaxation content and meditation apps like Headspace; and Moodica, which takes the brain on a much-needed vacation using videos.

The airlines has also announced its plans to distribute free cardboard phone stands which prop up devices and allow hands free viewing in an effort to promote personal device entertainment on few select flights. In-seat power outlets are being installed on all seats to enable customers to charge their personal devices as well.

Commenting on the launch, Mark Krolick, Vice President of Marketing, United Airlines said, "Whether it is seatback on-demand, DIRECTV or personal device entertainment, we offer customers hundreds of hours of programming to enjoy during their travels. We're excited to expand our personal device entertainment offering, which has been a popular option amongst many of our customers who tend to bring their own devices when they travel."

Seatback on-demand is one of United's entertainment options available on 757, 767, 777 and 787 aircraft.

The airline has also launched a new main menu category on its seatback on-demand entertainment for passengers with disabilities. Labelled Accessible Entertainment, the new section hosts accessible entertainment options, grouping all of the titles that are either audio descriptive or closed captioned in one main menu category. Currently, the section has over 20 different audio-descriptive movies and TV shows and 50 movies and shows with English closed captioning. Select DIRECTV channels also include closed captioning when the TV station makes it available. United continues to add additional accessible entertainment and screening options across its fleet.

Visit www.unitedprivatescreening.com to learn about onboard entertainment options, watch movie trailers and filter content by language, genre, audio description and closed captioning that will be available on upcoming flights.

New in-flight Catering Menu:
United Airlines has announced the launch of a new menu for its in-flight Catering service. The new menu service will commence with effect from May 1, 2018 and will include eggs, chicken chorizo tacos for breakfast and BBQ Chicken Sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

A new signature cocktail – the Old Fashioned will also be served on the airline's premium transcontinental service. The cocktail will be complimentary in United Economy Plus and available for purchase in domestic Economy.

Business class passengers will be treated to a collection of sundaes and cocktails. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced the launch of 'Anytime For You' culinary service on its flights from Amsterdam to Tokyo. The service will be available to all Business Class passengers on the route and will commence with effect from July 1, 2018. Earlier, this service was limited to flights to Bangkok.

The Anytime for you meal concept allows passengers to decide for themselves the what and when for their meals, much like a restaurant service; the time can be a variable only on daytime flights. The service offers a restaurant-like set menu with five dishes, which can be prepared at any time (during the daylight hours) and served in restaurant style - by hand, minimizing the use of a trolley.

Passengers can opt for the Business class 3-course meal as well.

Commenting on the launch, Martine van Streun, Director - Cabin Products & Service Engineering, KLM said, "KLM’s standard mealtimes don’t always coincide with customers’ needs and wishes. With 'Anytime For You', KLM offers passengers the freedom to plan their flight in terms of their own preferences with regard to food and drink, but also with regard to rest and work times."
